Oral Tongue Cancer
The main cause of oral tongue cancer is tobacco and gutka consumption. Sharp teeth or ill fitting dentures also cause oral tongue cancer.
The common presentation is a painless tongue ulcer in the early stage. In later stages this may be associated with neck nodes. In advanced stages the tongue becomes immobile and there is also associated pain, foul smell and difficulty in articulation and swallowing.
Early cases are amenable to surgery but in advanced cases a multimodality approach is required.
